-- Again, wala pong kwenta! HAHA
Bata, Bata paano ka ginawa?
During those times, it is a fact that the mere roles of our beloved mothers is to stay at house and take care of their children They don’t have the voice at their own house, they were not able to do things that they really want to do. They was just to stay in the four corners of the house which was really not right. But this stereotype role of women in the society was diversified in this movie. Lea Bustamante, a women who express things that comes into minds, who for for her family even though she is a woman, a mother, have 2 children namely Oggie and Maya.
Oggie and Maya treat each well though they have different father. Lea have a husband and have Oggie as the result of their love but they end up breaking up. After that, Lea has an affair with another man and has Maya as a result of their love. Oggie and Maya grew up open to the world, they do and express what they think is right. Oftentimes, they argue about who really their mother loves. Lea has so many problems with men, on her first husband, they broke up because she wants to be free, she don’t want that her life will be limited because she is not that type of women. On the second, they love each other but as time goes by, with the fact of Lea’s attitude, the man leaves her and found another.
At the near end of the story, there was a conflict that it has been up to the point that the two fathers of her children was near her, not only literary also emotionally. And there was a time when she can’t handle all the problems and suddenly she’s just being sick of being a mother and it seems that she has forgotten her roles of being a mother. Because of office works, her mind was mainly based on her work which makes the two men angry because she can’t handle work and family at the same time. They said that she must quit her job, but she doesn’t follow because she doesn’t want to be dictated on what she must do.
There was also an instance where in there was an accident that happened with her two child but she was at work so obviously she was not the first to know about it. When she came in to the hospital, the two fathers were waiting for her. She was accused of being careless of her children and that the children must be out of her hand because it will not do any good if the children are with her. She was so sick of all the problems and was then giving up.
Lea talks to her children about the decision that the children were about to make, if they will stay with their mother or go with their respective fathers. They was making things clear while the mother, on the other hand was thinking about what she will do, she have thought that a women can live without a man. And it is most important to children to grow up with their mother beside them. A mother can always understand but father seldom does. A mother mostly understands you because you came from her.
Suddenly, May and Oggie go back to their mother because they realize that even though their life wasn’t completely perfect, they know that life wouldn’t be perfect without it being incomplete. Meaning, life being imperfect makes it perfect. They also realize that no matter what happens, their mother will always and forever will be their mother.
Back then where females where not given so much importance, Maya was there, prove to people that Females and Men are just same and equal human being, There shouldn’t be things that are restricted only for men. Women should be free and has the freedom to do whatever they want. Women, without them, men are not complete.

The trip on the Bilibid adventure was a blast. Of course, coming from a Catholic University, we can’t really deny the fact that some of us or somehow majority of us have the first time to have an encounter with a inmate inside the Bilibid in Muntinlupa. The activity in the Bilibid goes well as I have first pictured it in my mind. At first, I don’t have any idea how it will be and what will I do, but when you are already there, it seems that you are at home because they are not like other prisoners, they are not like the prisoners that we see on television. In fact, they can actually go out on their cell unlike other prisons in other Bilibid. The Bulibid in Munitinlupa , as I have understand, have the, Maximum Security, where in inmates who have big penalty of imprison or sentenced to death located and there is the Medium Security, where in if the inmates case in Maximum Security somehow decrease, they will be send to Medium Security. And of course there is other prisoners who will and can, for their attitude, go out of the jail there is the Minimum Security where inmates wear brown shirt and they can roam all over the Bilibid without any guard because they are really that safe, the guards trust them enough.
I, myself enjoyed the trip, I’ve learned to explore and I actually learned a lot. I’ve found out that I can socialize with some people that seem not so friendly at the television.
In the bilibid there is like their “clubhouse” where we stay the whole afternoon, the activity start and close with a prayer. It was actually fun because the inmates have the chance to show us their hidden talents, some sing, dance, jam and as return some students from the 6 sections have their own performances too. After the back to back jam of the students with the inmates, of course everyone is hungry so we, students bring out the packed lunch of us and our inmates. While eating, we have given a chance to have a one on one talk with a respective inmate. We have the chance to asks questions which naturally, they would answer.
The inmate that accidentally partnered with me originally comes from Mindanao, I definitely wondered why he is in jail in Muntinlupa and I have known that people who have big cases must be brought to big prisons like that in Muntinlupa. He first was put in the Maximum Security and was sentenced to be in jail forever but the case decrease or left behind so he was put into the Medium Security. He was in the Maximum Security for 10 years, and he said that the life there was really harsh compared with that in Medium Security. He said that in Maximum Security you cal surely see inmates hurting each other, the brutal way. Then he was put into Medium Security and was there for 1year and he can say that it was much more free life in there than that in Maximum Security. He also states that it the Medium Security, they have churches for Catholics, Born Again and all religions. He just keeps himself busy in their church instead of thinking about his beloved wife and four children, he also tell me that they have communication, through texts which cost 3pesos in there and call, which cost 30pesos per minute. How do they get the money? He said that he is having the privilege to have money sometimes weekly but sometimes none. Being a preacher in their church, they also preach their good news in other inmates; they are like teaching them that is why they are given some money for that.
In regards to those prisoners who have not yet finished with their studies, they can study in there of free. The University of Perpetual Help- Delta (Las Pinas) extension is there to help the students have the knowledge and they can finish their schooling so that their time will be useful. They have Elementary, High school, College education. With this education, they can go out of the jail, knowledgeable and can immediately work outside the prison.
Again, during the encounter with the inmates, they seem happy and glad that there are some people who care about them. We have to admit it; many prisoners are forgotten by their loved ones. Sadly, when they are there in the jail, eating foods that are not super cooked, with no tastes at all, fighting with other inmates, sleeping in a small cell with 70+ persons in it their loved one is out there, eating foods that are cooked well, can live peacefully with their children and can sleep well with the kids.
Worst case of being forgotten is that, when you still care and you still think that you’re someone out there is not shame that you are her lawfully wedded husband and that still waits for you, then suddenly ‘you’ are just the one who is thinking of it. In the other side, she has already forgotten you because it is her humiliation that you are her wife.
Harsh Reality but true, people absolutely do not want this to happen so how to prevent this, we must also prevent doing bad or unnecessary things that the government would hate us, we must stay only in His’ side, the Lord’s side and not on the other side. We must first realize what will be the consequences before we do things that we know that won’t help us at all. We must commit to things that won’t cause or bring us to danger. We must know who will be our friends and what will they bring to us. We must care about other people and not hurt them. We must love each other and not kill each other. We must realize that we are in one world, with only one father. So why kill one another, like brothers and sisters, we should learn and practice the four-letter-word instead. Love, love do makes the world go round. See, it is not hate; Killing is an effect of hating a person. Hate does not bring good to us creatures, it always not. So live and LET live. Love and just LET LOVE.

HIDI DIN EDITED, SORRY :)
Nicole Besa.
Maria Nicole “NIKI” Besa, a college freshman, accountancy student from the University of Santo Tomas suffered from what is commonly known as Hemorrhage or internal bleeding, which caused the young lady’s sudden death on January 16, 2009 at exactly 4:00am and was declared dead on arrival.
Nicole Besa, a thomasian, has a graceful and flexible body. She enhances it by doing more of what she got. She actively belonged to two of the dance troupe, one from her university and another outside the university.
In her case, the bleeding occurred inside her head when she did the headstand, a stunt for dancing, that’s the time that they were preparing for the University wide cheer dance competition, the Cheer Mania together with her dance group mates in her major.
The said practice was done on January 11, 2009 Sunday. It was the Preliminary exam week of the Accountancy students. The stunt was performed by Besa on the said practice. After the practice, Besa was able to go home peacefully but the day after, January 12, 2009 Monday, there was suppose to be a meeting for the YFC, a group outside the University that she’s actively belonged before, but she was not able to come. A friend of her, Christian Pangilinan, student from the same University, BS Psychology, has a sudden feeling of fear so he asks her. A text message from Besa says… “Sumasakit dibdib ko… Sobrang sakit n’ya, ayan nilagnat pa ‘ko.”
On January 13-14, 2009 Tuesday & Wednesday, Besa was confined at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was sent home by doctors because they said; they didn’t found anything that can hurt her on her body. Besa had gone back to normal but apparently, she feels the symptoms again, January 16, 2009, Friday, Besa was hurriedly brought to the nearest hospital, Philippine Hearts(somewhere in Katipunan) at 4:00am and was declared dead on arrival.
Many people were sorry for the 17 year old girl, Besa who have failed to have a chance to enjoy more of her life. “Hindi agad ako naniwala syempre parang ‘Benefit of the doubt’ nalang.” Christian Pangilinan said.
The autopsy came out and said that it was not because Besa done the stunt that she died. It was because she feels so much stress plus the fact that it was their exam week then maybe Besa’s body was shocked and wasn’t able to handle the pressure.

HINDI PA EDITED, SORRY :))
BASTA TOMASINO…
Basta Tomasino, an online based wed campaign, project successfully done by the organization, TOMWEB, to mainly bridge the gap between all students in the University of Santo Tomas.
The University of Santo Tomas, composed of College of Science, College of Education, College of Architecture, College of Commerce, College of Nursing, Faculty of Civil Law, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Arts and Letters, Faculty of Engineering, Conservatory of Music, College of Rehabilitation Sciences, College of Fine Arts and Design, College of Accountancy, Graduate School, Institution of Physical Education and Athletics, Institution of Religion, Institution of Hospitality and Management, UST High School, Elementary School. Many faculties, only one school but through the campus, unity can’t easily be determined.
One project campaigned by Tomweb, “BASTA TOMASINO…” was planned and done to mainly have the thomasian community be united as one, the project was planned on the summer of 2008 and finally materialized on October, 2008. Because it is a fact that currently, people are engage to the internet world, tomweb has come up to a project that will help thomasians see the unity between all the colleges at the same university.
Basta Tomasino is an open-ended statement that would be continued by giving an adjective next to it, adjectives that surely defines how or what a thomasian is.
“We aim to bridge the gap between all thomasians.” Sharlene Cunan, 3rd year, Journalism, President of TOMWEB states when asks about the aim of the said project.
Basta Tomasino… aims to unite all the colleges inside the university. “Kasi ang nangyayare, mas loyal tayo sa mga faculty naten.” Katrina Corpus, 4th year, Information Management says. Thomasians have to realize that we are in the same university, we are family, and we are all thomasians.
This campaign came up to something that will have to recognize Thomasian students, the advocacy band, the advocacy band is wear by thomasian students and by this, it is almost likely to say that ‘IM A PROUD THOMASIAN’.
With Nico Orillano as the web designer of the BASTA TOMASINO website, the site is starting to spread in the Thomasian Community, bringing the advocacy band all over the UST, having the students of the university proud and say to the world that ‘we will just bleed black and gold’, that they will always be thomasians at heart and that they can proudly say “Aba, USTe ako!” This campaign encourages Thomasian students to unite as ONE and be proud of the university, the University of Santo Tomas.

How MEDIA cultivates?
Nowadays, and ever before, Media totally has many effect on us. It changes something in our life, maybe not all. But still, there’s something. Media also serves as an entertainment to us. Why can I say these things? Because I am a living example of it, I’ve experienced changing, changing the aspects that have lived in my mind. It cultivates my mind; it put something in my mind that can’t easily erase.
Take for example, what we see on commercials that are shown in the television. Commercials are produced to entertain people to buy the product they produce. To buy something because it makes you beautiful and the likes, but by commercials, our mind was somehow affected and cultivated by media. Like in commercials of shampoo, soap, etc… Beautiful girls commonly called as models are paid to endorse their products. And usually, models that we commonly seen in the television are white in complexion have long hair and soft skin. When we see that aspect in a girl, we automatically think that the girl is beautiful, cause that are the commonly aspects of a model so that is what we think. With that as an example, we can say that media truly cultivate our minds.
Other example is this, why do we think we shake hands with those we had know? For example, we have just known a person, automatically, what we do is to shake hands with that person. Why? Because that is what we see, commonly in movies, we may see scenes like that, that a person shakes hand with a newly-met-person. That’s what we do, because that’s what media gives us that are an effect of how media cultivates us. Another example is when we see a lady who always wear make-up, wear expensive and signature dress we may think that the lady is vain, because that is what the media is usually trying to put in our mind. It is what media cultivates us.
And in movies, for example a slightly violent movie, when it is time for them to beat each other, the antagonist usually lost his power when it is battle time and at the same time the protagonist have his power. Irony isn’t it? But that is what media is always giving us, and at other movies, when two people beat each other, the protagonist usually win and at instance, the protagonist will just stand up and fought again and win this time.
These are just examples of the reality of how media affects us, of how media cultivates us. These are just very valid examples that media really has a great effect in our mind
